Keep Your Immune System Strong Naturally

So it’s that time of the year I start to see everyone everywhere getting sick. Really people get sick all year but the winter months seem to get the most attention about the cold/flu season.  So I can’t help but share how my family and I stay healthy naturally during the sick season and really all year long. Doing these things have kept our immune systems strong, kept us from unscheduled doctors visits, and has significantly shortened anytime where we may feel under the weather, like literally hours instead of days! Do these tips I have for you consistently and you’ll begin to notice a change in your overall health too!

-Drink half your body weight in ounces in water everyday. Water flushes out germs and viruses from your immune system, plus it keeps your body hydrated.

-Drink 1-2oz of Ningxia Red everyday. Ningxia Red is a powerful whole fruit supplement that contains wolfberry, blueberry, pomegranate, aronia, and cherry. It is also has Lemon, Orange, Yuzu, and Tangerine essential oils. It is sourced from the Ningxia province in China, and has been used in Chinese medicine for years. It is a super food and antioxidant powerhouse with a crazy high ORAC score of 30,000. ⁣⁣ It’s a liquid, so it is easier to digest, easier on your gut, and absorbs the nutrients faster so that your body and utilize all vitamins/minerals faster.⁣⁣ An added plus is it gives our minds and bodies the nutrients they need to keep performing properly with an extra boost of natural energy!

-Take a probiotic daily. The one I recommend is Young Living’s Life 9 for the adults and MightyPro for kids. A healthy immune system starts in the gut. A healthy gut health = better overall health.

-Use essential oils daily as a proactive NOT as a reactive approach. I use Young Living’s essential oils everyday! I will ONLY recommend Young Living’s oils, read why here and more about what essential oils are. Use them aromatically, topically, and internally. This bullet point could really use a whole post of its own cause we use essential oils all day everyday so I’ll try to make it short.

  • Aromatically- use your diffuser everyday, put your oils on diffuser jewelry, or just breathe them in from your palms.
  • Topically- apply diluted oils to basically anywhere on your body except for your eyes and into ears. To help keep our immune systems up all year long we roll on what we call our superhero oil blend every night on the bottoms of our feet, spine, and the back of our necks.
Superhero Health Oil Blend-
-10ml roller bottle
-10 drops Thieves
-10 drops Oregano
-10 drops Frankincense
-10 drops ImmuPower (optional but adds a big immune system punch)
Add essential oils to roller, fill with a fatty carrier oil (my favorite is YL’s V-6 carrier blend) Apply this to you feet, spine (yuck likes to stick around in your spine), and back of neck everyday.
  • Internally- like I said before I only recommend Young Living’s essential oils especially because they have a whole line made to be taken internally. These oils are party of their Vitality line and are labeled for internal use. I like the make Thieves tea (a drop of Thieves Vitality in a cup of warm water or tea with a little local raw honey. If you’re not a tea drinker, add the oils to a veggie capsule with a little olive/coconut oil and take that for immune support.

-Exercise daily. I do Essentrics almost everyday and here’s a blog post on why I love it so much. We walk daily, play outside, and just move our bodies. People who exercise regularly tend to get sick less. They may also recover more quickly than people who do not exercise regularly.

-Limit sugar intake. Viruses, disease, and illness feed on sugar so I don’t want to add fuel to the fire. Sugar weakens your immune system, so when you eat sugar and refined foods, you create a breeding ground for a sickness to thrive. We don’t completely cut out sugar but it also means we don’t eat the stuff that’s loaded with sugar or added sugars including simple refined carbs, juices/sodas, and many of the processed foods with added sugar.

-Get 8 hours of sleep a night (10-12 for the kids). Sleep helps your body better fight infections that cause you to get sick. Pro-tip: get the desert mist diffuser in your bedroom, add sleepy oils (lavender, peace & calming, cedarwood, stress away) and set it on the low setting so it runs all night! You’ll have a wonderful nights sleep!

-Eat lots of fruits and veggies. Try to eat in them in rawest form and add lots more green vegetables into your diet daily. Certain foods have powerful properties that can support your body while it’s fighting an illness. They may relieve certain symptoms and even help you heal more quickly.

-Switch to natural cleaners. Many chemicals our everyday cleaning products have in them are actually doing more harm than good. They over use antimicrobials that leave your immune system weak and vulnerable. The easiest way to switch is getting Young Living’s Thieves Household Cleaner. It’s a toxin free plant based cleaner that is concentrated, so you mix up how much you need for the cleaning job at hand. It replaces every cleaner in your home. Use it in the kitchen, bathroom, windows, floors, toys, etc… everything! The essential oils in the cleaner have been used for thousands of years for their cleansing properties. And the best part… it smells like Christmas!

-Pray, gratitude, journal, etc. Do any or all of these. People who are energetic, happy and relaxed are less likely to catch a cold than those who are depressed, nervous or angry. The mind is a complex thing God gave us, treat it nicely. When your mind is healthier your body is healthier!

Now this is really just a small list of many things you can do to stay healthy all year and there are many other natural things that you do too. So do your research, find what works for you, and keep looking towards natural health to keep your immune system up all year! Stay healthy my friends!
